Environmentally Conscious Retailers Band Together to Take the Bottom out of the Washable Cloth Nappy Market

There’s change afoot, or rather, abound on bottoms. Because everyone from real nappy manufacturers, to brand retailers through to work at home mums have agreed to unite to tell people about the benefits of reusable nappies and wipes.
Says Wendy Richards, of the Nappy Lady:
“The organisation started from an online group chat about the need for the market to pool resources, set aside competitive differences and work together.
The Real Nappy Week Retailer Organisation exists both online and within each business that contributes. Our role is to provide information and educational resources that will really engage consumers and challenge the stereotype of reusable nappy users as being lentil weaving hippies! And if reusable nappies are good enough for Orlando Bloom and Miranda Kerr, Julia Roberts, Jamie and Jules Oliver then they’ve got be something that other people can use as well!”
The reusable nappy market is growing and it’s for this reason that the likes of bumGenius are committed to organisation. Says Maebh Collins, distributor of bumGenius:
“The cloth nappy market is worth more than £15 million per year in the UK – and it’s growing year on year. The decision by Huggies to withdraw from the UK market is reflective of the fact that consumers are now much more aware of the choices available to them.
Parents are making prudent purchasing decisions in light of the continuing challenges our economy is facing. So it’s common sense for us all to work together to help people save money.”
A launch event is taking place online during real nappy week, from 15th to 22nd of April 2013, where more than £6,000 of reusable nappies and wipes and all the kit that goes with them, will be given away to consumers.
Says Helen Rankin of Cheeky Wipes:
“At the moment, it’s top secret. But I am allowed to share one word with you – Clothopoly. That’s all I’m allowed to say at the moment. And that it’s going to be totally inclusive for everyone from manufacturers to individual resellers of reusable nappies and that the whole of the UK will be getting involved!”
