New Website Launched to Promote Winter Safety Tips

Manchester, United Kingdom (PRWEB) September 19, 2011

The summer is now firmly behind us and as autumn gets well under way, one website is advising homes and businesses that now is the time to be preparing for the colder months – whether it’s to improve health and safety or to save money.

According to whatishealthandsafety.co.uk, many people might not realise that preparing for winter is something that needs to be done well in advance. The site says that, just like every year, there will likely be loads of people who are caught by surprise when the ice and snow arrives.

With that in mind, it is advising people to make sure they have everything they need – from snow shovels to salt spreaders – ready to roll in a few months’ time. Over the course of the year, it explains, the cold reality of the previous winter can fade into a distant memory and badly stored equipment can become water damaged without you knowing.

Commenting on its new campaign to encourage homes and businesses to invest in things like grit and salt spreaders, whatishealthandsafety.co.uk spokesman Matt Hornsby said the site is keen to make sure people don’t make the same mistakes as millions of people do every single year.

“There is so much you can do to ensure winter doesn’t leave you cold and miserable,” he said. “For example, how many times have you woken up to find a blanket of ice and snow has suddenly coated everything outside your bedroom window? Sure, it’s beautiful at first, but when you are scrambling around outside trying to get the car out of the driveway it gets pretty tiresome, pretty quickly!”

With that in mind, Hornsby highlighted a number of things people need to have around their home and in their place of work to make life easier and prevent accidents.

“Obviously, you’ll want to have a decent snow shovel and, if possible, a grit spreader. If you have at least these two things, you’ll not only be able to help make sure your car – or your employees cars – don’t get snowed in, you’ll also be helping to prevent any unnecessary accidents.”
