Rideshare.co.uk the UK website for Europe’s largest lift sharing portal has launched. Allowing anyone, even unregistered users, to search for lifts across the UK and Europe for free.

Lift sharing is basically organised hitchhiking where a driver offers a lift to passengers, generally in return for a contribution towards petrol. It can save people hundreds of pounds per year, and even helps save the environment, and reduces congestion on the roads.

Rideshare.co.uk is part of the mitfahrgelegenheit.de platform, which with a total of over 1.3 million registered users, is used to arrange between 10,000 and 30,000 shared journeys every day. Starting in Germany in 2001, the platform now also includes France, Italy, Greece, Poland, Switzerland, Austria and the UK.

Rideshare.co.uk makes lift sharing as safe as possible, by providing users with features to show that they are trustworthy, and the option of who they travel with. For anyone security conscious they always have the option to only travel with authenticated users (users who have proved their identity), or to only use “from women for women” lifts (women only). Rideshare.co.uk also has a customer services team to help should any problems arise.

Unlike most lift sharing websites, rideshare is open for anyone to search for lifts without needing to register. Yet privacy remains in place as users can choose what they want to share with different types of website visitor. The website aims to become the best and easiest place to search for lifts across the UK and Europe, saving people money, helping them reduce their carbon footprints, and decreasing traffic and congestion on the roads.

A trip from London to Edinburgh (400 miles) will cost approximately £60 in petrol. But if 2 passengers are taken, each paying £20, it reduces the cost for the driver by 67% to £20. That would save the driver £80 on a return trip.
