UK Holidays Cost More Travel Money than Breaks Abroad

(PRWeb UK) June 20, 2009

UK families may be better off holidaying abroad, as recent research shows that UK family resorts charge up to 65 per cent extra during school breaks . Post Office Travel Services reveals that, because they are not part of the euro, Poland, Hungary and Iceland all offer favourable foreign exchange rates for sterling at present, to help holidaymakers’ travel money go further.

The Post Office report also found that foreign currency rates for sun and sand in holiday favourite Jamaica are currently positive for sterling, meaning that UK travellers looking to get the most punch for their travel money can still find great holiday deals.

Perennial beach holiday favourite Turkey was found to be a popular destination for UK travellers this year, as the Post Office has noted a 60 per cent year-on-year increase in foreign currency sales of the Turkish lira.

Sarah Munro, Post Office head of travel services, said: “Holidaymakers looking for best value should choose destinations where they can get more for their pounds. These include Iceland, which has been expensive to visit in the past, as well as Turkey and Kenya, rated as best buys in our travel money cost of living surveys. But they should not waste these savings by buying foreign currency at the airport, where they will pay commission and get a poor foreign currency exchange rate.”
