World’s First Wine Free-Trade MarketPlace Opens Its Doors

(PRWEB UK) 17 May 2011

The world’s first open, free trade marketplace for wine has launched today in the UK. Brought by online wine retailer Naked Wines, Naked MarketPlace will transform the way in which wine is bought and sold in the UK.

Naked MarketPlace will create a new level of transparency within the wine industry:

By-passing agents, distributors and retailers, allowing winemakers from anywhere in the world to pitch their wines directly to customers.
Customers pay the price they think is fair.
Naked Wines takes a fixed 10% commission.

In contrast to traditional channels:

Winemakers can start selling immediately, rather than through the normal trade cycle of 9 -12 months.
Winemakers get cash up front, rather than after extended credit terms.
Winemakers don’t have to spend money before they generate sales.
Customers can save anywhere from 25% to 65% off the normal price of the wines.

Naked Wines Founder Rowan Gormley explains, “The world’s wine market has been stunted by snobbery, protectionist laws and dubious marketing, where customers pay too much and talented winemakers can’t survive. With Naked MarketPlace we aim to create a meritocracy where rewards go to the winemakers with the most talent. For the first time, winemakers can get what their wine is worth, not what is left over after everyone else has taken their cut.

“Naked Wines is not here to sell wines to the customers. We are here to get the wines the customers want, at prices they cannot get themselves. And save the independent winemaker in the process!”
